Itinerary

DAY 1:

Salinas Lagoon Exploration

The initial point of interest is the Chiguata overlook. This location provides a view of the Chiguata terracing. Following this a visit to Rancho Larico is scheduled for viewing traditional bullfighting. Breakfast is provided in the town of Chiguata concurrent with a visit to the Espíritu Santo Colonial Church.

The route continues to the Alto Simbral overlook featuring Yareta Tola and the Queñua Forest. At 10:30 am the itinerary shifts to the Salinas Lagoon (4300 m/14107 ft) for vicuña observation. Flamingo sightings are included. The Salinas water mirrors are a focal point for photography.

The San Juan de Tarucani wetlands offer a view of the Ubinas Volcano. Llama alpaca and Andean viscacha sightings are included. The El Fraile dam overlook is next.

The Patahuasi stone forest is the designated location for a tourist menu lunch. The Patapampa volcano overlook at 4910 meters above sea level is the next stop. Arrival in Chivay is scheduled for 4:00 pm. A visit to the thermal baths follows. A folkloric show is scheduled for the evening meal. Hotel accommodation is provided overnight.

The second day focuses on the Colca Canyon. The Cruz del Cóndor overlook is the initial location. A 40-minute optional hike along the canyon edge is available.

The Colca Amphitheater overlook Antahuilque overlook and Wayrapunko overlook are included. The Tunturpay overlook offers Sancayo juice tasting at local cost.

The Colca litho-model is viewed. The traditional town of Maca is visited. The traditional town of Yanque is included. Lunch in Chivay is not included. The return to Arequipa concludes the tour.
